Point of Pride #35 – The Admissions Team

July 6, 2017

The college admissions process can be a stressful and confusing time, especially for first-generation college students and for students who lack a solid support system. With more than 3,800 colleges in the U.S., there are many options for higher education. It is important for prospective students to thoroughly research and understand their options, so they can select a college that is a good fit for them and ultimately be successful as a student.

An abundance of choices for students, coupled with a declining number of graduating high school seniors, has created immense competition among colleges for new students. Therefore, the role of college admissions professionals is increasingly important and challenging.

Under the leadership of Erin Craig, Dean of Enrollment Management, the Herkimer College Admissions Office is staffed by four admissions professionals, two support staff, and several student workers. It is the responsibility of our admissions team to encourage potential students to consider Herkimer College and to help them determine if Herkimer is the right fit for them.

Through high school visits, college fairs. Instant admit days, and a variety of other recruitment events, our team meets with prospective students and their families to educate them about the college and our programs and services. They host group visits to campus and coordinate a variety of open house, information sessions and registration days throughout the year. The office receives thousands of admissions applications per year and works diligently to help students and their families throughout the application and registration process.

Many thanks to our Admissions Office for their tireless work to ensure that those students who can benefit from a Herkimer College education receive the information and assistance needed to complete the enrollment process.
