This course is designed for the student with little or no background in chemistry. The topics presented include: the Periodic Table, atoms, elements and compounds, chemical reactions, states of matter, solutions, acids and bases, nuclear chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry. Upon completion of this course, the student will understand the relevance of chemistry to everyday life. The accompanying laboratory illustrates principles learned in lecture and emphasizes general laboratory techniques. Students may not receive credit for both this course and SC 153.
