This introductory course will educate the liberal arts student on the role of microorganisms in society today. Students will be introduced to the diverse types of microbes that exist and will learn how they can be both beneficial and detrimental to all living organisms. Specific topics to be covered include: microbial evolution and ecology; epidemiology; biowarfare; and emerging infectious disease.
