Art Studies

Bookmark and Share Art Studies at Herkimer County Community College

The Art Studies program is designed for students whose goal is either to transfer into an arts education program in order to teach art in an elementary or secondary school, or to transfer to a four-year college to specialize in creative art therapy.

Do you enjoy drawing and painting? Want to share your artistic talent with others? Our program in Art Studies will prepare you for transfer to a four-year college to become an art teacher at the elementary or secondary level. You can also concentrate in Creative Art Therapy.

Transfer Information

The need for teachers at both the elementary and secondary level is expected to increase significantly in the next five years, both nationally and across New York State. Graduates of the two-year Art Studies program transfer to such four-year institutions as SUC at Oswego, SUC at New Paltz, SUC at Buffalo, Daemen College and Chester College of New England to complete the training necessary to become certified art teachers. Those students who wish to pursue the Creative Arts Therapy concentration transfer to such four-year institutions as SUC at Brockport, Russell Sage and Utica College.
