Teaching Assistant Certificate

A 2003 graduate of Herkimer College with a Teaching Assistant certificate, Carolyn Bergeron has dedicated herself to raising awareness of Down Syndrome. As a person with Down Syndrome, Carolyn travels extensively to advocate for people with all types of disabilities. She is a member of the Self-Advocacy Council of the National Down Syndrome Congress and served a three-year term as a board member. She is an advocacy speaker for the New York State Speakers Bureau and volunteers at the United Cerebral Palsy Tradewinds, in Rome, NY. She received the Christian Pueschel Citizenship Award from the National Down Syndrome Congress in 2005 and the National Down Syndrome Society “Voices” Award in 2007. Carolyn’s travels have taken her across the country and back, and she continues to be an advocate for those with Down Syndrome and other disabilities. Carolyn encourages those she speaks with to take the “dis” out of “disability” and to recognize that we all are “more alike than different.”
