Robert E. Baber joined Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute (MWPAI) in 1999 and has served as Dean of the School of Art since 2003. In this role, Baber is responsible for the operation of PrattMWP, the Upstate New York campus of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and the MWPAI’s Community Arts Education program. He previously served the dual role of Director of Communications and Interim Dean of the School of Art (2002-2003) and as Director of Communications and Development (1999-2002). Prior to joining MWPAI, Baber was Director of Public Relations and Chief Advancement Officer at SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome and a former Instructor of Journalism Studies at Utica College of Syracuse University. A native of Utica, Baber earned an associate degree in business administration from Herkimer College, a bachelor’s degree in public relations and journalism from Utica College, and a master’s degree in news/editorial journalism from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Active in the community, Baber is president of GroWest, Inc. and past president of the Downtown Utica Development Association, Utica Kiwanis Club and the State University of New York Council on University Advancement and Development. Baber is the former secretary of the board of the Oneida County Convention and Visitors Bureau. He also served for two years as media director for the Utica Boilermaker Road Race. He and his wife Nancy Cote Baber have two children, Cassaundra and Robert III, and two grandchildren, Dakota and Claudette.
