Congratulations, Mina and Justin!

You know what they say, “April showers bring May flowers”. They certainly do as we have been getting nothing but rain this week. The clouds are covering the sky, the ground is soaked, and campus is quiet. Everyone has their favorite scent and mine happens to be the smell of rain. It almost has a refreshing aroma as it comes down.

When you’re in college there’s a pretty good chance that you’ll end up visiting another college at some point whether it be to visit some friends or family or to take a tour if you’re considering transferring. One thing I have noticed at other colleges I've visited is that most don’t have their own kitchens. Here at Herkimer College, housing is apartment-style and are equipped with full kitchens. For a person like me who absolutely loves to cook, it’s a wonderful thing. Since I have been at Herkimer I have made countless dinners, not only for myself but my friends also. Knowing how to cook is plus especially when I’m hungry and the dining center is closed.

It seems like there's always an event going on at Herkimer College. Today I received word that on May 6th there will be a talent show! Talent shows are always fun to attend because there are always people who have hidden talents like singing, rapping, or dancing. I love watching people dance. There is something about the way people move to rhythm that just fascinates me. I cannot wait for my peers to showcase their talents!

I would like to formally congratulate my fellow Resident Assistants, Minalis Diese and Justin Harley on receiving The SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. The award is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by the University! What an honor!

Check back next week as I share my first-year experiences with you!- Christian Hurtado
