2007 HCCC Athletic Awards

Men's basketball player Robby Marshall, Syracuse, received the Most Valuable Player award at the College's annual athletic banquet. Antonio Burgos, New York City, received the Most Improved Player award.

Marshall Named All-American

Herkimer County Community College men's basketball player Robby Marshall has been named a 2007 third team All-American. Marshall averaged 14.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game to lead the Generals to a 24-8 record and a Region III runner-up finish.

"I am extremely proud of Robby and look forward to watching him grow as a student-athlete at Herkimer."  Marshall was also named Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and was a first team All-Region selection. A freshman from Syracuse, Marshall played basketball at Corcoran High School under Coach Tim Schmidt.

Men's Basketball Awards

Herkimer County Community College men's basketball player Robby Marshall, Syracuse, was named Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and selected first team All-Region. Marshall averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds per game. "Robby has unlimited potential and a great attitude. He will return to Herkimer next year as one of the best players in the Region," said head coach Matt Lee. Marshall is a graduate of Corcoran High School and is a freshman General Studies major at HCCC.

Preston Bell, Queens, is a second team All-Region selection. A pre-season first team All-American, Bell had an average of 13 points and seven rebounds per game. He averaged 22 points per game in the Region III tournament. A graduate of Long Island City High School, Bell is a General Studies major at HCCC.




Matt Lee, Utica, was named Region III Coach of the Year. Lee led the Generals to the Region III finals and finished the season with a record of 24-8. The team clinched the program's first Mountain Valley Conference title since 1987. Lee also led Herkimer to the Region III finals last year with an overall record of 23-9. He has served as head coach since 2003. "This award is a testament to Coach Lee's outstanding dedication and commitment to our men's basketball program. His hard work and leadership are helping to move the program back to one of the strongest in the region," said HCCC athletic director Donald Dutcher.

Fulton-Montgomery Community College 88

Herkimer County Community College lost in an emotional Region III championship game to Fulton-Montgomery Community College after winning in the semifinals over Clinton Community College. It was the second consecutive year the Generals lost in the Regional championship game. Marques Damon scored 15 points including going seven for eight from the foul line, and Kaseem Rabouin had 17 points. Rabouin and Preston Bell were both all-tournament selections for the Generals.

Clinton Community College 60

The Generals stormed out to a 23 point half time lead and were never threatened as they defeated Clinton Community College 85-60 in the semifinal round of the Region III tournament.  Five players scored in double figures. Leading the way was Preston Bell with 16 points. Kaseem Rabouin had 13 points, and Will Mercado had 10 points and 9 assists.

The victory earns the Generals, the eighth-ranked Division III junior college team in the nation, a bid in the finals for the second straight year. Herkimer will face Fulton-Montgomery Community College, the third-ranked Division III junior college team in the country. The winner takes on College of DuPage (Illinois) in the NJCAA national tournament on March 15.

Broome Community College 80

The Generals overcame a 78-75 deficit with three minutes left to come from behind and defeat seventh seeded Broome Community College 87-80. Kaseem Rabouin's clutch three pointer tied the score at 78 and Broome could only manage two foul shots the rest of the way.

The Generals were led by Preston Bell's 20 points and 10 rebounds. Rabouin chipped in with 18 points and five rebounds, and Kevin Cook was four of six in three-point shots to add 13 points off of the bench. Will Mercado led the way with nine assists. Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year Robby Marshall also had a solid game with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Generals advance to the semifinals to take on Clinton Community College on Saturday.

Herkimer lost the final game of the season to Clinton Community College 76-59. This was the only time the team lost two games consecutively all season. Antonio Burgos led the Generals with 11 points and 7 rebounds. The Generals' final record is 22-6 in Region III, 22-7 overall and 14-2 in the Mountain Valley Conference. Herkimer begins Region III playoffs at home Friday at 6:00 pm.

Fulton-Montgomery Community College 79

The Herkimer County Community College men's basketball team lost to Fulton-Montgomery Community College 79-72. Kaseem Rabouin led the Generals with 12 points. Will Mercado had six assists, and Chris Marcellus came off the bench to score eight first-half points. Herkimer was down 53-36 in the second half, but rallied to tie the score at 72 with two minutes left before going cold and shooting down the stretch.

Herkimer completed the conference season in first place with a record of 14-2. The team's Region III record is currently 22-5 and overall record is 22-6. The Generals conclude their regular season and celebrate Senior Day on February 24 at home against Clinton Community College.

Herkimer will play in the Region III championship tournament at HCCC next weekend, with their first game scheduled for Friday, March 2 at 6:00 pm against a team yet to be determined. If they win, they will go on to play on Saturday, March 3 at 3:00pm.

Herkimer County Community College's men's basketball team defeated Adirondack Community College 74-35. This runs the Generals' overall record to 22-5 (22-4 in Division III) and the Conference record to 14-1. Herkimer is now ranked No. 3 in the nation behind Middlesex Community College of New Jersey and Sullivan Community College. Akeem Flagg led the Generals with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Antonio Burgos came off the bench to spark the team with eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots. Chris Marcellus added six assists. Herkimer plays Fulton-Montgomery Community College (ranked No. 6 in the nation) February 22 at 7:00 pm in Johnstown, NY.

Herkimer County Community College 69

Herkimer County Community College defeated SUNY Cobleskill 69-63 in double overtime bringing the Generals' record to 21-5 overall, 21-4 in Region III and 13-1 in the Mountain Valley Conference. Herkimer is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation and is likely to move up when the next poll is taken. The score was tied at 45 after the first overtime and 51after the second. Robby Marshall led Herkimer again with 20 points and 13 rebounds including two foul shots to send the game into the first overtime. Preston Bell had 13 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four steals, and Marques Damon had 13 rebounds and two big foul shots in the final seconds to put the game away.

Herkimer clinched the Mountain Valley Conference for the first time since the 1987 season, even with a national championship win in 1991 (that season Fulton-Montgomery was Division I and won the conference).
  
Herkimer next plays Tuesday, February 20 at home against Adirondack C.C. (8 pm) to make up the game from last Wednesday that was postponed due to weather. HCCC travels to FMCC Thursday, February 22 and finishes the regular season at home on Saturday, February 24 against Clinton Community College.

Herkimer-The Herkimer County Community College Generals defeated the Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks 79-61 on Saturday. This brings Herkimer's conference record to 12-1 and their overall record to 20-5 (20-4 in HCCC's division). The win avenges two earlier losses to MVCC and puts the Generals atop the conference with three conference games to play. A win against SUNY Cobleskill on Monday will clinch the conference title. Robby Marshall led the team again with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Akeem Flagg added 11 points, and Will Mercado had 10 assists. Kevin Cook came off of the bench to spark the team with eight points and eight rebounds.

Columbia-Greene Community College 30

HCCC defeated Columbia-Greene Community College 86-30. The victory brings Herkimer's Mountain Valley Conference record to 11-1 and the Region III record to 19-4. Akeem Flagg led the Generals with 16 points. Robby Marshall contributed 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Preston Bell chipped in with 12. Will Mercado had 10 assists and six steals as he played a very strong floor game. Ten players joined in the scoring.

Alfred State 65

Herkimer traveled to Division II power Alfred State and lost 65-63 on a shot with 1.2 seconds remaining in the game. This brings Herkimer's overall record to 18-5, and the Division III and Mountain Valley Conference record remain at 18-4 and 10-1 respectively.  Robby Marshall had 16 points and eight rebounds, and Preston Bell had 12 points and seven rebounds in the loss. On Monday, February 12, the Generals return to action at home against Columbia-Greene Community College, a team Herkimer defeated last Friday 78-35.

Fulton Montgomery Community College 70

The HCCC men's basketball team defeated Fulton Montgomery Community College at home 75-70. Fulton-Montgomery is currently ranked fourth in the nation, and HCCC is ranked sixth. The win extends Herkimer's overall record to 18-4 and 10-1 in the Mountain Valley Conference. The Generals are currently in first place in Region III and the Conference. Herkimer was led by Kaseem Rabouin with 19 points including four three-point field goals in the first half. Robby Marshall had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Preston Bell chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds. Rabouin and Chris Marcellus were each two for two from the line in the final 15 seconds of the game to seal the victory.

The men's basketball team defeated Columbia-Greene Friday night 78-35 with the Generals' best defensive effort of the season. The win brings Herkimer's Conference record to 9-1 and the overall record to 17-4. The Generals had 11 players score, and were led by Preston Ritter with 14 points and eight rebounds, and Preston Bell and Robby Marshall with 12 points each.

Mohawk Valley Community College 77

The men's basketball team lost to Mohawk Valley Community College, in Utica, 77-59 snapping the Generals' 10-game winning streak. Robbie Marshall had 10 points and six rebounds. Herkimer shot only three for 23 (13%) from three-point range while MVCC was a very good 10 for 22 {45%}. The loss drops Herkimer to 8-1 in the conference and 16-4 overall.

The Herkimer Generals grabbed their 10th consecutive win against Hudson Valley Community College by a score of 104-87. This brings the Generals' overall record to 16-3 and the Mountain Valley Conference record to 8-0.  Robby Marshall had 21 points and eight rebounds, and Akeem Flagg had his best college game with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Kaseem Rabouin had 15 points, five rebounds and four steals, Preston Ritter added 11 points and six rebounds and Marques Damon handed out 12 assists. Herkimer next plays Mohawk Valley Community College Wednesday, January 31 at 7:00pm at MVCC.

Herkimer County Community College 's men's basketball team beat SUNY Cobleskill 63-58, holding them 20 points below their season average.  The win gives the Generals sole possession of first place in the Mountain Valley Conference with a record of 7-0 and brings the team's overall Region III record to 15-3. It was the ninth consecutive win for Herkimer.  Robby Marshall led Herkimer with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Will Mercado added 10 assists and Kaseem Rabouin came off the bench and played a very strong game with nine points, five rebounds and three steals.

Plattsburgh, NY-The Herkimer County Community College men's basketball team defeated Clinton Community College 88-78 on Sunday. Marques Damon scored 18 points, and Kaseem Rabouin added 17. Chris Marcellus had seven points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Will Mercado, Damon, and Rabouin each had four steals. This brings the Generals' Region III record to 14-3.

Queensbury, NY--The Herkimer County Community College men's basketball team defeated Adirondack Community College 71-59 Saturday. This brings the Generals' Mountain Valley Conference record to 6-0. Marques Damon scored 19 points and Robby Marshall added 15. Preston Bell, Preston Ritter and Robby Marshall all had eight rebounds, and Will Mercado added seven assists.

The Herkimer County Community College men's basketball team defeated SUNY Delhi in a Mountain Valley Conference game 72-56 at Delhi. This was a make-up game from Sunday's cancellation due to inclement weather.

Robby Marshall and Marques Damon led the Generals with 19 points apiece, followed by Akeem Flagg with 14 points. Marshall also had 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots, and Will Mercado had eight assists. Delhi's leading scorer, Jon Myers, was held to 11 points due to Herkimer's pressure defense.

This brings the Generals' overall record to 12-3. The team is currently ranked second in Region III and has a Conference record of 5-0. The Generals next play at Adirondack Community College on Saturday, January 20 and at Clinton Community College on Sunday, January 21.

Herkimer—Herkimer County Community College’s home opener resulted in a landslide win over Schenectady County Community College. Herkimer’s leading scorers were Geoff Brown, Robby Marshall and Preston Bell, with 14 points each. Leading rebounders were Akeem Flagg with 11 and Robby Marshall with 10. Will Mercado, Geoff Brown and Marques Damon each had six assists. The team had a total of 27 assists and only 12 turnovers.

HCCC Men's Basketball Team Ranked Number Three in Division III

OCTOBER 19, 2006 - Herkimer County Community College is ranked number three in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III men’s basketball pre-season poll.

Returning key players include Will Mercado, of Miami (FL), and Chris Rocco, of Saugerties, with a combined 20.2 points, 10.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game last year. Also returning to anchor the defense is Chris Marcellus, a graduate of Hamilton High School, a first team Region III All-Tournament selection.

Other players to watch will be Preston Bell and Kevin Cook, both transfers from Morrisville State. A pre-season first-team NJCAA All-American and graduate of Long Island City High School, Bell was the leading scorer for Morrisville last season with 17.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Cook, a graduate of Dr. Susan S. McKinley High School ( Brooklyn), ranked second in scoring with 20.2 points, 10.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game.

Herkimer finished last season with a 23-9 season record and a second place finish in the Region III tournament after a 71-65 loss to Finger Lakes Community College.

Head coach Matt Lee enters his fourth year leading the Generals. Herkimer’s season opens Wednesday, November 1 at Finger Lakes Community College. The first home game is scheduled for Wednesday, November 8 at 7pm against Schenectady County Community College.

The NJCAA released the rankings earlier this week. Other top ranked teams are Sullivan County Community College (#1), Cedar Valley College, TX (#2), Minneapolis Community and Technical College, MN (#4), and Gloucester County College (#5).

Lonnell Jones was named Region III Athlete of the Week for his 43-point performance against Fulton-Montgomery CC on Thursday, February 23. Herkimer ended its regular season with a 102-76 win to secure second place in the Mountain Valley Conference.

Generals get # 4 seed! Herkimer will play Friday March 3rd at Mohawk Valley Community COllege at 3pm vs #5 seed Broome Community College. Herkimer finished the season with a 21-8 overall record and 15-3 in the Mountain Valley Conference and sole possession of second place.

Lonnell Jones and Keynon Jackson have been selected to the 2005-06 first team All-Region team. Head coach Matt Lee has also been selected to second team All-Region. Keynon averages 15 points and 8 rebounds a game while Lonnell averages 14 points and six assists. Both Generals have been the key to Herkimer's first 20 plus winning season since 1990-91.

Men's Basketball gets national vote. The Generals are ranked 16th in the nation according to the latest NJCAA national poll. Herkimer finishes up its regular season Saturday on the road at Clinton CC and then awaits regional seeding on Sunday night.

Ten in a row! The Generals hit the 20-win mark for the first time since 1994. The Generals trailed by five at the half and rallied to improve to 14-3 in the Conference and 20-8 overall with a 73-51 win over SUNY Cobleskill. Kaseem Rabouin came off the bench to spark the Generals with 24 points. Herkimer hosts Fulton-Montgomery Thursday, February 24 at 7pm.

The Generals improve their winning streak to nine in a row with a 56-55 road win versus Mohawk Valley CC. Keynon Jackson scored with 3.2 seconds left on an out-of-bounds play lob from Will Mercado. The win puts HCCC at 13-3 in the Mountain Valley Conference and 19-8 overall. The Generals travel to Cobleskill Monday, February 20 for a 7pm tip off.

The HCCC men's basketball team won 86-65 last night in its opening game of the spring semester against Schenectady Community College. The Generals improved their record to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the Mountain Valley Conference.  Keynon Jackson led Herkimer with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Lonnell Jones scored 14 and dished out 11 assists, and Shomari Evans chipped in with 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Herkimer will play SUNY Delhi, the number two ranked team in the nation, at home Saturday, January 14 at 3 p.m.

Keynon Jackson, Harlem, and Dwight Barnett, Jamaica, NY, were named Herkimer’s Male Athletes of the Year. Jackson led the men’s basketball team this year to its first Region III championship since 1991. He averaged 15 points and eight rebounds, was named first team All-Region, and was the College’s Green and Gold Club selection for January.

The HCCC men's basketball team fell to SUNY Delhi 81-77 last night. Keynon Jackson led the Generals with 16 points, and Chris Marcellus chipped in with 15. Marcellus tied the game at 75 with a three-pointer from the corner with two minutes remaining. Lonnell Jones also had a three-pointer to tie with 17 seconds left in the game. Delhi moves to 9-1 on the season. Herkimer's overall record is now 5-5. The next home game is against North Country Community College on Thursday, December 1 at 6 pm.

Lonnell Jones led the Generals yesterday with nine of Herkimer's 15 points in overtime to defeat Jefferson CC 97-93.  Lonnell finished with 23 points and 8 rebounds.  Brian Dunn had 16 points, Chris Rocco had 13 and Keynon Jackson chipped in with 12.  Herkimer moves to 4-3 overall and travels to Corning Sunday, November 20 for a 3pm tip-off.

Men's basketball tops #2 team in Region with a 76-66 victory over Hudson Valley. Chris Rocco led the Generals with 17 points and six rebounds and Utica's Kaseem Rabouin chipped in with 16 points.
