Awards and Accomplishments
NJCAA All-Americans
Cindy Kemler, 1979-80
Cindy Kemler led the Generals to their first two regional championships in women’s basketball in 1979 and 1980. She was the first woman from New York State to be named NJCAA basketball All-American (1980). She averaged 18.3 points per game and 15 rebounds per game at the national tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team. She is a former West Canada Valley High School standout and is employed by Herkimer High School. Cindy is also a well-respected basketball and soccer official for Section III.
Joanie Bolan, 1992
Joanie Bolan was the second HCCC women’s basketball player to be named All-American (1992). A 5’11’ guard, Joanie was voted Region III Player of the Year and averaged 23.7 points per game and 13.2 rebounds per game. Joanie still holds the single game scoring record (42 points) and is Herkimer’s second leading single season scorer with 687 points. She led the Generals to a 22-7 record and a national ranking of eighth in the final NJCAA National basketball poll.
Melissa Chandler, 1993-94
Melissa was the first two-time All-American in Herkimer’s history earning this prestigious award in 1993 and 1994. She was one of the most complete players ever to play for Herkimer averaging 19.3 points per game, 13 rebounds per game, and 4.8 assists per game for her two years. Melissa scored 1,155 points and earned a school record of 798 rebounds leading Herkimer to a Region III championship in 1994. A versatile 6’1” athlete, she was well-known for her sweeping hook shot which she consistently drained.
Michele Davis, 1994-95
Michele is the only two-time first team All-American selection for Herkimer County Community College in women’s basketball. Michele is the all-time NJCAA Division III Women’s Basketball leading scorer with 1,456 total points in her two years at Herkimer. She led Herkimer to an outstanding 59-8 record which included two Division III Region III championships and two national championship appearances. She received a scholarship from Albany State University where she ended her career 12 th in scoring and was the all-time leading three point scorer in just two seasons. Michele is currently the head women’s basketball coach at Utica College. She is a former Notre Dame High School ( Utica) graduate.
Jessica Seamon, 1998
Jessica Seamon was an outstanding basketball player earning All-American honors in 1998. She was named Division III Region III Player of the Year and led Herkimer to a 25-5 record averaging 12.2 points per game, 12.8 rebounds per game and 4.9 assists per game. She earned a scholarship at Division I Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky where she played basketball and softball. Jessica is currently the head softball pitching coach at North Georgia College & State University. She is a former Richfield Springs High
School standout in basketball and softball.
Kara Bowman, 1999-00
Kara Bowman earned All-American honors for the Generals in 2000. She had an outstanding season averaging 19.4 points per game, 13.9 rebounds per game, and 4.2 assists per game. Opposing teams had great difficulty defending Kara, a very tough 6’0 post player. As evidence of her post domination, she attempted 213 free throws during in her final season. She received a scholarship from the University of Tampa where she finished her basketball career. Kara is currently living and working in Florida.
