Women's Cross Country runs away with the Cobleskill Invitational. Team places 1st.

The Women’s Cross Country Team is currently tied for 2nd in the Nation. This week, freshman Sarah Lazarus, from New Berlin, was named National Runner of the Week for NJCAA Division 3. Sarah is a basketball and track & field athlete, and decided to run cross country to stay in shape for basketball. The Cobleskill meet was Sarah's first cross country meet ever. Coach Sharon Howell said "Since she is new to this sport, she didn't know what to expect. She now has a feel for what cross country is all about, and I expect she will get better in each race she runs." Howell noted that Sarah is a very dedicated and focused athlete, and went on to say "I expect to see great results in not just cross country but basketball and track as well."

2005 Season Preview:

For 2005, returning runners for the women’s team are Patty Wakefield and Stephine Sawyer, and returning for the men is Matt Swancott.  The men’s team looks to be much stronger than last year.  The focus continues to be on building up the program.  With complete teams and improving times, we should be able to hold our own at meets.

2004 Season in Review:

Last spring was the first year in many that we had complete teams for both men’s and women’s Cross Country, and the season was successful.

Women: First @ SUNY Cobleskill & Alfred State, 2nd at Finger Lakes, 3rd at Delhi & Mountain Valley, 4th at Regionals and 8th at Nationals.

Men: stayed consistently around 4th for the regular season, and 7th at Regionals. Returning runner returning for men is Matt Swancott. The men’s team looks to be much stronger than last year.
