Kristen Harrison had an excellent game giving herself up time and again to keep the ball off Herkimer’s side of the court. She added 16 service points with eight straight in the third game.

Game Summary: Herkimer had a solid day, although early on were forced to change starting line-up and suffered an injured player during semi-finals. The Generals had a slow start against MVCC as the team had to adjust to the line-up change and playing different positions. They came together nicely in the afternoon to beat Hudson Valley CC and SUNY Delhi. Herkimer put forth a great effort in semi-finals against dominating Alfred State. Starting OH Julie Faber suffered an injury in the first game and was unable to play, adding to the struggle for HCCC in the second game. Krystle Hagenlocher was selected to the all-tourney team.

2007 HCCC Athletic Awards
Two members of the 2006 volleyball team received awards at the College’s annual athletic banquet. Alicia Maneen, Frankfort, was named Most Valuable Player, and Emily Thomas, Sandy Creek, received the Coach’s Award.

Herkimer County Community College 's volleyball team ended the season on a very high note, defeating SUNY Delhi in five sets. The game scores were 30-25, 23-30, 30-17, 29-31 and 15-11. The match avenged two earlier season losses to Delhi.
“Several of our players had great matches,” said head coach Katie Scanlon. Alicia Maneen, of Frankfort, recorded a new career high of 45 assists, as well as 12 digs. Emily Thomas, in her last match at HCCC, recorded 16 kills, 16 digs and three aces. Julie Ann Faber had 13 kills, 16 digs, three aces and eight blocks. Raelyn Cuda contributed 12 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Senior libero Lindsey Ming led HCCC's defense with 21 digs. Four seniors played their last matches for the Herkimer Generals: Emily Thomas, Raelyn Cuda, Alyssa Duelser and Lindsey Ming.
The girls really came together today and played the way I knew they could,” said Scanlon. “All season long, there have been glimpses of how good they could be, and today they displayed that throughout the entire match. It was a great way to end the season."

The women's volleyball team defeated SUNY Canton in four games by scores of 30-27, 30-24, 20-30 and 30-20. Herkimer was led by Julie Ann Faber with 12 kills, four blocks, 10 digs and eight aces. “Every aspect of Julie Ann's game was on last night,” said Herkimer’s head coach Katie Scanlon.
Alicia Maneen recorded 36 assists and eight digs. Raelyn Cuda had 14 kills and 11 digs. Emily Thomas had 17 digs, nine kills and two aces. Others having solid days for Herkimer were Lindsey Ming with 18 digs and Lani Stevens with four kills, nine digs and three aces.

Herkimer lost a hard fought five-set match to Adirondack Community College by scores of 30-20, 26-30, 19-30, 30-20, 13-15. Herkimer was led by Alicia Maneen, of Frankfort, with a career match high of 45 assists, as well as 13 digs and two aces. Emily Thomas tallied 17 kills, 14 digs, and two aces. Julie Ann Faber had 12 kills, 10 digs, three blocks and two aces. Raelyn Cuda, of Whitesboro, had 11 kills and 14 digs. “We were kept off-step by a very powerful ACC middle-hitter, but I was very proud of the girls’ fight throughout the entire match,” said head coach Katie Scanlon.

Herkimer County Community College’s volleyball team defeated Elmira’s junior varsity team in straight sets by scores of 30-28, 30-26 and 30-25. Herkimer was led by Alicia Maneen, of Frankfort, with 27 assists, four digs and three aces. “Alicia has really stepped it up for Herkimer,” said head coach Katie Scanlon. Maneen has recorded 85 assists in the last three matches. Raeyln Cuda had 11 kills and four digs. Lani Stevens had five aces, six kills and seven digs. Emily Thomas had seven kills and six digs, while Julie Ann Faber had five kills, eight digs and four aces.

Herkimer County Community College’s volleyball team lost a close four-set match against Broome Community College by scores of 26-30, 29-31, 30-28 and 15-30. Several Herkimer players had outstanding matches. Raelyn Cuda had a career high of 17 kills. She also added six digs and three blocks. Alicia Maneen had another solid performance with 27 assists and 10 digs. Julie Ann Faber had 15 kills, seven digs, three blocks and three aces. Alyssa Duesler had a great day off the bench with six aces.

The Herkimer County Community College volleyball team lost a close four-set match to Onondaga Community College by scores of 22-30, 30-27, 27-30 and 20-30. Herkimer had outstanding performances by senior Emily Thomas, of Sandy Creek, and freshman setter Alicia Maneen of Frankfort. Emily tallied 16 kills (career match high), 15 digs and 2 blocks and Alicia recorded 31 assists (career match high) and 11 digs. Raelyn Cuda, of Whitesboro, had 11 kills and 9 digs; Lani Stevens had 9 kills, 3 aces and 6 digs; and Julie Ann Faber had 9 kills, 10 digs and 5 aces. Coach Katie Scanlon said “Our offense was at its best of the season, but 18 missed serves and inconsistent transition on defense cost us another close match.”

Onondaga, NY—Herkimer’s volleyball team dropped four matches at the Onondaga Community College Tournament this weekend. Scores were:

Herkimer was only team to win a game against Monroe. Emily Thomas, of Sandy Creek, was honored as an All-Tournament selection.

Herkimer earned their second win of the season with a straight set victory over HVCC by scores of 30-18, 30-27, 30-21. Julie Ann Faber led Herkimer with her dominating net play all night with 14 kills. Coach Katie Scanlon said, “Julie Ann is always thinking of where the holes are, and that’s where she puts the ball.” Others with standout performances were Raelyn Cuda with 11 kills and 11 digs, Alicia Maneen with 20 assists, and Emily Thomas with eight aces, seven kills and eight digs. “The girls are finally coming together as a team and realizing that we can control whats going on on our side of the net,” said Scanlon.

Herkimer County Community College lost in three sets to SUNY Cobleskill by scores of 20-30, 19-30 and 17-30. Herkimer was led by Emily Thomas who tallied nine kills and five digs. Middle hitter Julie Ann Faber contributed eight kills, four digs, three blocks and three aces; and Alicia Maneen tallied 11 assists and four digs. Coach Katie Scanlon said “We had some great performances off the bench out of Lani Steven, Lindsey Ming and Emily Neiderman.” Herkimer hosts Hudson Valley Community College on Monday at 6pm.

The volleyball team lost to Mohawk Valley Community College in three sets by scores of 24-30, 25-30 and 14-30. Coach Katie Scanlon said “the team played right along with MVCC during the first two sets, and then gave up the third set with little or no fight.” Emily Thomas led Herkimer with nine kills, three aces and five digs. Raelyn Cuda added eight kills and five digs. Julie Ann Faber added seven kills, three aces and eight digs. Alicia Maneen had nine assists and 10 digs, while Sarah Murphy contributed 13 assists. Scanlon further noted “the statistics look like that of a winning team; however, our errors are what made the difference in this game.” Herkimer’s next game is against SUNY Cobleskill at home on Thursday, September 21.

Herkimer lost a three-set match to a much improved Jefferson Community College by scores of 19-30, 28-30 and 19-30. Herkimer was led by Whitesboro native Raelyn Cuda with 7 kills, 10 digs, and 2 aces. Emily Thomas, of Sandy Creek, tallied 7 kills, 8 digs and 2 aces. Jessica Wicks of Lowville also contributed 7 kills. Setters Sarah Murphy and Alicia Maneen, both of Frankfort, combined for 23 assists. Coach Katie Scanlon said “Despite the loss I am proud of the girls. They really played like a team tonight. If the girls continue to show improvements as they did tonight they could really turn this season around.” Final score was 3-0.
