The Herkimer College Children's Center bases our programming on the following beliefs:
- Young children are inherently motivated to learn about their world; therefore, they learn best through play, exploration, and discovery using hands-on materials that are relevant to them.
- Building social and emotional skills is essential for children in order to succeed in school and in life.
- Teachers must work together with families to help children participate successfully in our program, particularly when families may have differing ideas about how children learn.
Our philosophy is based on childhood theorists Piaget, Vygotsky, and Erikson.
