How do I start a new club or organization?

Visit the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement office to pick up a copy of our “Club/Organization Start-Up Kit”. You will need at least ten (10) interested students and a faculty/staff advisor. You will also need to compose a letter of intent and create a club constitution. Once you have all the necessary people and have completed all the paperwork the Student Government Association will vote to either approve or deny your group. Our office will assist you with all of these steps and help you through the process.


How can I advertise a club/organization event on campus?

If you would like to advertise for a campus event on our bulletin boards, please follow these simple steps: (1) Design a flyer announcing your campus event ” remember to include what it is, the time, date and place; (2) bring a copy of your flyer to the Center for Student Leadership and Involvement office(RMCC 220) for approval; (3) the Center for Student Leadership and Involvement office staff will review and if approved, the flyer is stamped and posted by us. Flyers are posted on bulletin boards across campus. There are also a lot of other ways to advertise (table tents, door hangers, banners, messages on our TV monitors, etc.) - please stop by our office so that we can assist you with these possibilities.


How do I find out about clubs on campus?

Our clubs and organizations are listed on the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement website. In addition, a Club/Organization brochure is available in our office. The Center for Student Leadership & Involvement staff can help you join the group, inform you of upcoming meetings and also put you in touch with the advisor(s) and/or officer(s). If you don’t see a club that suits your interests - start a new one! You also find us on Facebook at Herkimer Student Activities.


How do I join a student club or organization?

The easiest way to join a club/organization is to contact the club/organization advisor or the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement Office. We can let you know when and where the next meeting is.


Where do I get information about events and activities happening on campus?

Upcoming events and activities are posted on the college and Student Activities Office website. A calendar of events is available in the Student Activities Office and in other offices. Events are also posted on bulletin boards throughout the campus. A campus daily bulletin is sent via e-mail each morning.


Can I bring a friend or family member to an activity/event if s/he is not a current Herkimer student?

All activities/events are open to Herkimer students and the community unless otherwise noted. You may be asked to show a current Herkimer student ID.


Can I make suggestions for events and activities?

Yes, of course! If you have an idea, please stop by our office and let us know. You can also send us your ideas via the request information form, attend a Student Activities Committee meeting or visit us on Facebook at Herkimer Student Activities. We're here for YOU! We welcome ideas and suggestions.

How does a student club plan and organize an event?

Clubs and organizations should work closely with both their club advisor and the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement Office to plan an event. We can assist you with contacting the right people and making sure all of the details are figured out.


How can I get involved? What are the benefits to being involved?

You can become involved in a lot of different ways. You can join a club, intramural team; become a Student Ambassador, Resident Assistant, Peer Tutor and much, much more. Or, you can simply volunteer to help with campus events. Stop by the Center for Student Leadership Office for more information. We encourage all students to become involved in one way or another it's a great way to meet people and learn more about what Herkimer has to offer you.


Who works in the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement office and what do they do?

Three professional staff members make up the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement: a Director, Assistant Director and an Office Assistant I. Our job is work with clubs/organizations, plan and organize campus programs/events in addition to coordinating Orientation and Fall Fest. We also hire 5-6 student employees that assist us with day to day tasks
