At the Herkimer College Children’s Center, we’re passionate and thoughtful about our role in shaping your child’s development. Our curriculums are designed to:

- Allow for exploration, imagination, and fun

- Support the mastery of basic intellectual concepts and the goal of Kindergarten readiness

- Rely on children’s natural curiosities and tendencies toward learning

Toddlers (18 Months – 36 Months)
The curriculum for toddlers is based on children’s play behaviors and interests. Our daily routine is one that is consistent yet flexible and spontaneous. It provides the necessary security as the children develop a secure sense of self and need for independence. The teachers create and adapt the environment and activities to meet the children’s changing needs from day to day.
We understand that toddlers learn with their whole bodies. They learn more by doing than being told. Toddlers discover their world on a physical level, so it is expected that they will prefer walking, climbing, carrying objects, dumping or dropping objects to sitting, picking up toys, or playing in a designated space. We appreciate toddlers’ active approach to learning – which is the key ingredient to positive growth and development.
Preschool (3 - 5 Years Old)
The curriculum is based on the children’s interests and builds on what children know and what they want to know. At the same time, it allows for adaptation and modifications and is intellectually engaging and designed to address multiple domains of children’s development. We select and use materials and equipment to support the curriculum to foster a desired outcome for the children. The curriculum includes goals and objectives in each of the following areas of development: social, emotional, cognitive, physical and language.
