For many students and parents, Herkimer is their first choice because of the value of a Herkimer County Community College education. Not to mention small classes, personal attention, support services, on-campus housing, excellent transfer opportunities, and a nationally-ranked athletic program. Perhaps the number one reason to consider Herkimer is STUDENT SUCCESS. Herkimer is ranked among the top 100 community colleges in the nation for student success, based on transfer and graduation rates.
Our students enjoy on-campus housing, available in three apartment complexes located adjacent to the main academic facilities. Herkimer is home to over 600 students during the academic year making it one of the largest residential community colleges in New York State. To provide the full college experience, Herkimer also offers more than 40 student clubs and organizations, men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletic programs with 53 national championship titles, and exciting activities and events each semester.
With more than 40 associate degree programs and three certificates in a variety of subject areas, Herkimer continues to develop new academic programs to meet the changing needs of the workplace. Herkimer’s newest degree programs in Engineering Science, Quality Assurance, Mathematics and Computer Science will prepare graduates to excel in some of the most in-demand fields. Herkimer has transfer agreements with many four-year colleges and universities allowing for a smooth transition and making it one of the premier transfer community colleges in the SUNY system. Over two-thirds of Herkimer graduates transfer to schools including Cornell, Hartwick, Syracuse, RIT, Bowling Green, Springfield and every four-year SUNY college.
