Bullied: Jamie Nabozny

  • Robert McLaughlin College Center (RMCC), 288

Herkimer College will host a presentation of “Bullied” by Jamie Nabozny.

Jamie Nabozny grew up in Ashland, a small town in northern Wisconsin on the south shore of Lake Superior. His life changed drastically when he was targeted in middle school for being gay.

His years of harassment ended with a beating that put him in the hospital and required abdominal surgery. Nabozny then moved to Minneapolis. After realizing that many other young people endured similar fates he decided to fight back. With the help of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, Nabozny won a landmark lawsuit in Federal court that establishes that all young people including those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered deserve a safe educational experience. The Southern Poverty Law Center produced a documentary titled “Bullied” that chronicles his life. Jamie travels around the country and shares his story in hope that no one else will have to endure what he did. He was recently named a Defender of Human Rights by the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.

Nabozny will be presenting at Herkimer College on Monday, February 9th at 10:30 am following the screening of the movie at 9:45 a.m. The presentation is sponsored by The Gay Straight Alliance Club, The Center for Student Leadership and Involvement and the Counseling Center. The event is free and open to the public.
