Herkimer ARC Artists to Exhibit Show in Cogar Gallery

Twenty eight artists, who are supported by the Herkimer ARC, will have their artwork featured in Herkimer College’s Cogar Gallery, from Thursday, April 23 to Sunday, May 31.

The exhibit, "Emphasizing Possibilities...Recognizing Abilities," will showcase 82 pieces of arts—from pottery to paintings to illustrated books.

The Cogar Gallery is located in the Hummel Corporate and Professional Education Center, at the main entrance to the Robert McLaughlin College Center. It is open to the public free of charge, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. when the college is open.

Herkimer ARC Vice President of Day and Community Supports Susan Streeter, explained the artwork and books were created in various programs at the nonprofit.

"The show will feature beautiful paintings and furniture painted and repurposed by a group of men, who turn trash into treasure. The Gentlemen’s group won various awards including recognition at the View in Old Forge, NY," Streeter said. "The Herkimer ARC also hosts visiting artists, who teach pottery and book writing and illustration classes. Individuals created lovely pottery and whimsical books. Another artist designs wonderful and detailed pictures on an Etch A Sketch. Many of us can remember how frustrating it was to create a simple picture with the white knobs. Still other artists participating in the show have had their work shown throughout New York State at galleries, colleges, and libraries. We truly hope that area residents will take time to visit the art show so we can share the wonderful abilities of our artists. If you love art, the show is worth a visit."

The Herkimer ARC’s mission is to enable people with disabilities and others in the community to achieve full potential and to live enriched lives.
