Students enrolled in the Communication Arts: Radio-Television Broadcasting program at Herkimer College have been nominated by the Associated Press New York State Broadcasters Awards for outstanding student produced news coverage.

“HCTV News” is nominated in two categories, “Best Regularly Scheduled Newscast” and “Best News Story.” Communication Arts students Melissa Krull, class of 2014 (Cold Brook), Sean Messier, class of 2014 (Beaver Falls) and Kristofer Klosner (Ilion) were nominated for their role in “Best Regularly Scheduled Newscast” where Krull served as newscast producer and anchor, Messier was director and Klosner was weathercaster. Krull has also been nominated for “Best News Story” for her work on “From HCTV to Eyewitness News” where she chronicled the story of three Herkimer College Communication Arts: Radio-Television Broadcasting students and their journey from Herkimer College to working at WUTR.

Assistant Professor of Communication Arts Douglas Flanagan said “The idea of doing a live newscast every day, for a full week, was something we had wanted to try for a while. It took the right combination of students to pull that off. It was a remarkable event for a two year program like ours. We were just lucky enough to have the right combination of talent, drive and ability with that particular group to pull that off. They never backed down from the challenge.”

Winners will be announced at the annual New York State Broadcasters Association Associated Press awards dinner on Saturday, June 6 in Saratoga Springs.
