Programs Open at Herkimer College for Young Leaders and Scientists

Herkimer College will host youth programs for children interested in science, leadership and discovery. Programs will include Adventure Camp, Robotics Mini-Camp and Weather Watchers. The programs give campers opportunities to hone and gain personal experience in their passions.

Is your child always cooped up in their room, on their computer or game console? Adventure Camp gives children license to gain leadership and problem-solving skills, all while having fun in an open and fresh outdoor environment. The engaging activities enhance social development, self-esteem, relationship building, and cooperation, but never forget the importance of enjoying the world outside. The camp is for ages 8-13 and will run from July 20—23, 9am to 12pm. The cost is $72 per camper.

Robotics Mini-Camp takes your child’s beloved LEGOS and turns them into outstanding inventions bound to impress any local science fair. Sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, NY, this program turns an interest in creativity and building that your daughter or son may only have been able to use on their toys, into a blossoming passion. Students will learn how to build and program their own functioning robots and gain priceless hands-on engineering skills not available in their local science classrooms. The camp is for ages 10-13 and will run July 13—16 from 8am to 12pm.  The cost is $29 per camper.

Weather Watchers is for your budding meteorologist. Is your child frequently staring at the sky or asking for the weather forecast? Well, this may be just the class for them. Interactive lessons in all types of weather, from lake effect snow to thunderstorms, hurricanes and tornadoes, taught by real-life meteorologist Bill Kardas, will intrigue and engage your child. The camp is for ages 9-13 and will run July 20—23 from 1:30pm to 4pm. The cost is $69 per camper.
