Paintings by Amy Lucille McLaren entitled “In Her Ordinary Life, She Dreams Of Something Bigger” will be on exhibit in Herkimer College’s Cogar Gallery from Tuesday, September 8 through Friday, October 16.

A new-comer to the Cogar Gallery, McLaren’s narrative paintings explore relationships of day to day life and the drama that revolves in those spaces. In her artist’s statement, McLaren states: “I paint pivotal points in my life where I am losing or gaining control of my identity. While the topics are heavy, my paintings are not monumental or lofty. I make light of the seemingly serious, communicating hope and joy in moments of struggle and sorrow.” McLaren is an adjunct professor and teaches drawing and painting at The University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Monroe Community College.

Herkimer College’s Cogar Gallery is located in the Robert McLaughlin College Center and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. There will be an opening reception for McLaren’s exhibit on Tuesday, September 8 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm in the Gallery. The public is welcome to attend.
