The U.S. Botanic Garden (USBG) in Washington, D.C. will feature Herkimer College Associate Professor Emeritus James Bruce Schwabach’s Yosemite photo “El Capitan with Ponderosa Pines” in an exhibit from February 18 through October 2, 2016.

The exhibit ‘Flora of the National Parks’ will showcase some of the plant species and communities found throughout the more than 400 national parks in the United States, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service in the process. Illustrations and photographs will be included in the exhibit taking visitors on a tour of the beauty and importance of the American flora.

Schwabach, of Ilion, taught fine arts at Herkimer College from 1978 until his retirement in 2014. He served on the Cogar Gallery Committee and developed the Art Teachers Invitational Show, an exhibition of art work that gave staff an opportunity to have an exchange with art teachers from around the county. In 1998, Schwabach took a sabbatical leave to study and gain experience in the field of ceramic arts to develop new courses in both sculpture and pottery. He was promoted to associate professor in 1991 and was the art liaison for the College Now concurrent enrollment program. He holds a B.F.A. from SUNY New Paltz and an M.F.A. from Pennsylvania State University.

The USBG is committed to creating and offering extraordinary exhibits that delight, educate and inspire the public to become more active stewards of the plants that support life on earth. More information is available at www.usbg.gov.
