Herkimer College’s Campus Safety Department joined forces with local police, local EMT’s and volunteers on Thursday, January 7 to conduct an active shooter drill in the Robert McLaughlin College Center.

Led by Herkimer College's Director of Campus Safety Tim Rogers, the parties staged an active shooter situation. The objective was to teach staff how to respond to such an event and for officers on duty to experience this type of situation and work through the proper steps to respond to an on-campus crisis.

“I think we had a positive experience and gained a lot of knowledge from the drill,” said Rogers. “I look forward to continuing to work with Chief Joseph Malone and Captain Jeffrey Crim of the Herkimer Police Department on these types of training exercises in the future. We strive to provide a safe environment for students, employees and community members.”

At Herkimer College, crisis planning and response training is conducted on a regular basis. Another training exercise is planned for March 2016.
