Generals Theater Group Presents “Dog Sees God”

Herkimer County Community College’s Generals Theater Group will present Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead. This play reimagines characters from the popular comic strip Peanuts as teenagers and promotes awareness of several serious issues such as drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion, sexual relations and identity.

When CB’s dog dies from rabies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group’s bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion and sexual identity collide and careen toward an ending that’s both haunting and hopeful.

The show will be held in the McLaughlin College Center’s Sarkus-Busch theater on Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7, at 7 pm. Performances are free and open to the public. The show is directed by seniors Dan Curtacci and Sarah Stevens, with assistance from Matthew Powers, Generals Theater Group advisor and English Instructor. The show is for charity, and donations will be accepted for Live Out Loud and The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. In addition, campus groups and counselors will be on-hand to offer support to those that need it.

Powers said the organization, in addition to bringing theatrical productions to the College and local community, provides students with hands-on experience in acting, directing, stage and house management. For questions about the show please contact Matthew Powers at 866-0300, extension 8636.
