Two Herkimer College Faculty Granted Emeritus Status

The Herkimer County Community College Board of Trustees recently approved emeritus status for two retired faculty members, Lorraine Siniscarco, of Utica, and Mary Greene, of Herkimer.

Siniscarco retired as an associate professor of Science on August 31, 2015 after 26 years of service. She was appointed to the faculty on August 25, 1989 as assistant professor in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. She served as a fieldwork coordinator and program director before earning tenure in 1994 and being promoted to associate professor in 2011. Siniscarco served as secretary of the Academic Senate and as a member of the Curriculum, Laboratory Animals Advisory and Library Committees. She also participated in strategic planning initiatives and many division activities and volunteered for the annual Herkimer County Envirothon.

Greene retired in 2015 as a professor of Human Services/Social Science with 23 years of service. Greene joined the College in 1990 as a part-time instructor in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, then in 1992 was appointed full-time assistant professor. Five years later, Mary was granted tenure in 1997. When the program was eliminated in 2000, she accepted an assistant professor position in Human Services, and was promoted to associate professor in 2003 and professor in 2008. Greene served as chair of the Campus Accessibility Committee, and served on the Awards and Recognition and Academic Senate Planning Committees. She also served as a faculty advisor for the Human Services Club, and as a part-time instructor and counselor upon retirement.

Emeritus status is an honor granted by the Board of Trustees to retired professional, academic and administrative staff members who have demonstrated excellence and commitment to making Herkimer College the exceptional institution it is today.

President Cathleen McColgin said, “Emeritus status is one of the highest honors a faculty member can receive, and I am pleased to congratulate both Lorraine Siniscarco and Mary Greene on this very well-deserved recognition. The excellence and commitment they both brought to their work and the students they served is an inspiration to the faculty and staff who strive for excellence in their own careers.”
