Herkimer College to Offer Information Session for Students Displaced from ITT Technical Institute

In response to the recent closing of ITT Technical Institute, with some 130 campuses and 40,000 students, Herkimer County Community College will offer a Columbus Day information session on Monday, October 10 from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn about the degree programs available, including a new accelerated degree path and credit for experiential learning.

Beginning with the spring 2017 semester, Herkimer’s new Fast Track option will enable students to complete an associate degree in 17 months, shortening their time to degree by five months. While the Fast Track option is being developed to service displaced ITT students in particular, the option is also available for all interested students.

The initial four programs in which the Fast Track option will be available are Criminal Justice, Paralegal, Business Administration and Human Services, with possible additional programs to be added at a later date. The initial four Fast Track programs may be completed entirely online, on-campus or through a combination of online and on-campus courses.

While ITT courses are not transferrable to Herkimer College, students may receive prior learning credit for demonstrating previous work and learning experiences through testing or other assessments.

Provost Michael Oriolo said, “As a community college, Herkimer is ready and able to help students who have been left school-less by the shutdown of ITT. It is our mission to create flexible and unique degree paths to make it possible for students to achieve their educational goals. We are excited to offer a new Fast Track option for ITT students, and also for all who are interested in an accelerated path to their future.”
