Two Herkimer College Students Honored with SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence

The SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence was awarded to Herkimer College students Justin Harley, of Central Islip, NY and Milnalis Diese, of Bronx, NY.

A senior Business Administration major, Hurley is an honors student and a two-year captain of the men’s basketball team. He is very active on campus as a resident assistant, student ambassador, peer tutor, Faculty-Student Association board member, and a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

Diese is a Fashion Buying & Merchandising major, a Dean's List student, member of Phi Theta Kappa, and very active on campus as a peer tutor, resident assistant, student ambassador, Fashion Club president, and member of the Honors Program.

Herkimer College President Cathleen McColgin said, "Justin and Milnalis are excellent students who have worked hard and enjoyed the full collegiate experience by becoming involved in a wide variety of co-curricular activities. They have truly embraced the many opportunities available at Herkimer College. I am extremely proud of both of them and their achievements, and wish them much success in their future endeavors."

The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence acknowledges students who have received recognition for distinguished achievements. It is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by the University.

"It is my honor to celebrate the achievements of students who have surpassed SUNY's highest standards of academic excellence and leadership both on and off campus," said SUNY Chancellor Zimpher. "Every student we recognize today has demonstrated a strong commitment to their degree program, home campus, greater community, and much more. Congratulations to all of the students receiving this year’s award."

The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, NY.
