Briggs breaks Nazareth meet record in high jump

Rochester, NY-- Herkimer traveled to Nazareth College last Sunday to compete against many other programs including teams from NCAA division II and III, as well as fellow NJCAA division III.  Herkimer represented well earning many respectable results including freshman Chyanna Bernier (Ilion, NY)-- who led the Generals Cross Country team to their first Region III championship-- earned 22nd out of 40 runners in the 5,000M run and sixth out of 20 in the 3,000M steeplechase with a time of 12:05.37.  Gabrielle Bridgewater (Fort Plain, NY) earned 13th out of 32 for the javelin throw firing it 24.31M.

          The most impressive performance of the day came from local product Malik Briggs (Herkimer, NY) who set the meet record for the men's high jump at 1.98 meters which converts to approximately 6 feet 6 inches.  Briggs earned first out of 23 in this event.  He also competed in the 100M dash where he placed 46th out of 64, the 200M dash where he placed 78th out of 96, and the long jump whee he placed 29th out of 47.

The Generals travel back to Rochester, NY; this time to compete at SUNY Brockport Friday, April 14th.
