Herkimer baseball drops two to Timberwolves
Glens Falls, NY-- Herkimer Baseball traveled to face SUNY Adirondack this weekend in a Mountain Valley Conference showdown. The Generals battled through game one. Herkimer took an early 2-1 lead after the second inning from a ground ball to second base hit by #15 Bobby Lazar (Fairfield, CT) which scored the run from a fielders choice. SUNY Adirondack came alive in the fourth beginning with a walk given up by starting pitcher Greg Musk (Rotterdam Junction, NY). That walk proved to hurt as it would be the first of two to score that inning giving SUNY Adirondack the 4-2 lead.
Herkimer answered with excellent execution. Herkimer's #11 Brandon Hubbard began the inning with the same plan as the Timberwolves. He reached first on a walk and was advanced to third on the double hit by #4 Jake Terrill (Bayport, NY). Another walk drawn by catcher Jordan Zeppieri (Norwich, CT) loaded the bases and a third walk of the inning drawn by Leon Babcock (Bloomfield, CT) scored the third run for the Generals. Herkimer took the lead 4-3 that inning from #12 Elvis Belen who hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop who chose to get the second out rather than chase the runner. Herkimer was unable to hold the lead as the Timberwolves went ahead in the sixth as they scored two. The seventh proved uneventful as Adirondack finished the top of the seventh in three batters.
Herkimer also dropped the second game 14-6. They look to bounce back in their doubleheader this Tuesday (4/18) at home versus another Mountain Valley Conference foe Columbia Greene Community College beginning at 2 p.m.
