Science Fair Winners 2014

Herkimer College recently held a Jr. Sr. High School Science Fair sponsored by ICON.

Participants included students from Central Valley Academy, Mohawk Valley Christian Academy, Pathways Academy and West Canada Valley Central School. Projects were judged by ICON scientists and Herkimer College faculty.

Winners are eligible to go on to the “Ying Tri Region Science and Engineering Fair” in Syracuse on March 22-23.

The winners are:

Overall Champion: $200:

Herbert Fountain and Ryan Soron, West Canada Valley Central School “Setting String Strengths in a Pendulum Wage Machine”

Sr. High Division:

1st: $150: Shannon Booth, Central Valley Academy, “The Effect of Cleaning Products on our Environment”

2nd: $100: Maura Damon and Lexie Fisher, Mohawk Valley Christian Academy, “How Stress Affects Your Body”

3rd: $75: Phil Collins, Pathways Academy, “Is An Electric Powered Radio Better for the Earth Rather than a Crystal Radio?”

Jr. High Division:

1st:$150: Samuel Perkins, Mohawk Valley Christian Academy, “Sound Proofing”

2nd: $100: Mariah Lee, Mohawk Valley Christian Academy, “The Sugar Controversy”

3rd: $75: George Smith, Mohawk Valley Christian Academy, ”Lego Physics”

Special awards of $30 each were given in the following four categories:
