Winter Mini Session Financial Aid
Posted: October 02, 2013
There is very limited financial aid eligibility for the Winter Mini Session. Students who are Pell eligible and who are taking a Winter Mini course and who are registered for the Spring 2014 semester for less than 12 credits can receive a Pell grant. For these students the Winter Mini credits and the Spring 2014 credits can be combined and the Pell grant would be based on the total credit hours. For all other students taking a Winter Mini course(s) the student may request to use any excess financial funds that are due to them from the Spring 2014 be used to pay for the Winter Mini charges.
Example: Walter is taking 3 credits in the Winter Mini and his charges are $417
He is anticipating a Spring 2014 refund of $1000
His Winter Mini bill will be paid in full and he will receive a Spring 2014 refund of $583
Students who wish to use their Spring 2014 funds to satisfy their Winter Mini charges must complete a Winter Mini Financial Aid Application.
New limits on students Subsidized Loans
Posted: September 10, 2013
The Department of Education has changed the length of time a student may borrow Subsidized student loans. This applies to students who are first time student loan borrowers after July 1, 2013. A subsidized student loan does not accrue interest while the student is in school. With the new regulation, eligible students may borrow subsidized loans for a period not to exceed 150% of the length of the borrower’s educational program. Generally, this would mean a full time student in a 2 year program can only receive subsidized loans for 3 years. Students can receive unsubsidized loans as long as they are loan eligible.
