CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE (1968 – present). Essays, interviews, and reviews of recent critical books in the field.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE NOTES (1968 – present). Contains scholarly articles on literature: periods from medieval through modern are represented.
HORN BOOK MAGAZINE (1991 – present). Reviews, articles, news and explorations of children's books.
MODERN FICTION STUDIES (1955 – present). Articles on works of modern and contemporary fiction; emphasizes historical, theoretical, and interdisciplinary approaches.
NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW (1851 – present). Book reviews and essays featuring recently published works in The New York Times; includes weekly bestseller lists in fiction and nonfiction for adults and children.
NOTES ON CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE (1986 – present). The journal presents criticism of literature since 1940.
SHAKESPEARE QUARTERLY (1950 – present). Refereed journal articles in Shakespeare studies are available here.
STUDIES IN SHORT FICTION (1977 – 1999). This journal is devoted to serious commentary on short fiction.

Dictionary of Irish Literature. Ref.PR8706.D5 1996. Lists of works by Irish authors, also includes essays.
Dictionary of Literary Biography. Ref.PS129.D5. This multivolume title provides information on assorted topics (ex. Chicano Writers, British Short-Fiction Writers, 1945-1980) and includes references for further research.
Contemporary Literary Criticism. Ref.PN771.C59. These volumes contain information and critical commentary on over 2,000 authors; includes references for further research.
The Continuum Encyclopedia of Children’s Literature. Ref. PN1008.5.C66 2003. A reference source describing the development and current trends in children's literature throughout the world.
Encyclopedia of Fable. Ref. PN980.S66 1998. Presents the genre of fable and its major subgenres.
Feminism in Literature. Ref.PN471.F43 2005 (6 Vols.). An in-depth look at the history of women and feminism in literature.
Literature and Its Times.Ref.PN50.L574 1997 (5 Vols.). Profiles of 300 notable literary works and the historical events that influenced them.
Magill's Literary Annual. Ref.PN44.M335 (1966 – present). Each volume has essay-reviews of books from the respective year.
Multicultural Writers Since 1945. Ref. PN452 .M88 2004. Presents brief bio-critical essays of 102 authors.
Shakespearean Criticism. Ref.PR2965.S43 (52 Vols.). Shakespeare's plays and poetry are reviewed and references for further research are included.
