Herkimer County Community College is home to more than 600 students during the academic year, making it one of the largest residential community colleges in New York State.
On-campus housing is available in three quads: Campus Meadows, College Hill and Reservoir Run. Amenities include high speed internet access, cable TV and local phone service. All on-campus residential complexes are fully furnished and smoke free. Rent includes the cost of utilities.
Reservoir Run features four-person suite style apartments. Each apartment includes a living room, full kitchen with microwave, laundry room, four single bedrooms and two bathrooms. This residential community is primarily reserved for second-year students.
Campus Meadows is the largest residential quad and offers several different styles of apartments including townhouses (two double bedrooms), one-bedroom flats (one double bedroom), two-bedroom flats (two double bedrooms) and dorm-style flats (one bedroom w/four students). Each apartment includes a full kitchen, living room and bathroom.
College Hill offers several styles of apartments including two single bedrooms, two bedrooms shared (one single bedroom and one double bedroom) and one double bedroom. Each apartment includes a full kitchen, living room and bathroom.
Residence Life
Living on-campus helps students establish a sense of belonging, acquire critical thinking skills, make ethical decisions and assume self-responsibility. It is the responsibility of the residence life and housing staff to support students in these endeavors and develop programs that complement and enhance their classroom experiences.
Resident assistants reside in each of the buildings and are responsible for supervision of their particular areas. They are fellow students who are trained as community builders, problem-solvers, activity planners and referral sources, and they can also lend a supportive ear when needed. Area coordinators are full-time, live-in professional staff who supervise the resident assistants and have overall management responsibility for specific residential quad. The entire residence life and housing function is managed by the Director of Residence Life and Housing, also a live-in professional, who supervises the area coordinators and resident assistants. The Director also takes an active role in partnering with parents to ensure the overall development and academic success of each student.
Food Service
Kitchens are standard in all apartments, but students may also want to take advantage of the College's dining services. Located in the Robert McLaughlin College Center, the dining center offers breakfast, lunch and dinner during the week when classes are in session. Students are encouraged to obtain a Herkimer Cash Card Account, a prepaid spending account offering a safe and convenient way to make purchases in the dining hall, as well as the bookstore, area restaurants and stores.
Campus Safety
The academic and residential quads are patrolled by uniformed campus safety officers 24 hours a day throughout the year. HCCC's campus safety officers are trained in a variety of areas including emergency response, first aid and CPR, and some have peace officer status. The department has a cooperative working relationship with area law enforcement agencies to help maintain a safe campus environment.
Safety programs on the campus include participation in an emergency notification system, a student nighttime auxiliary program which provides additional coverage and escort services during the night time hours, and outdoor emergency phones throughout the campus that immediately connect callers to Camps Safety and the County's 911 service.
Owned by the Herkimer County College Foundation, the on-campus housing facilities are operated by the HCCC Housing Corporation and supervised by the office of Residence Life and Housing. The staff is committed to facilitating and enhancing the academic, social and personal growth of our students through open communication, responsibility, mutual cooperation and a diverse environment.
