Herkimer County Community College’s Amnesty International Organization is again sponsoring the annual Amnesty International Global Write-a-Thon for human rights on Thursday, December 6, bringing people together worldwide to make a difference in the lives of prisoners of conscience, human rights defenders, victims of torture and at-risk individuals.

On December 6, students, staff and local community members will have the opportunity to participate. Using the proven power of the pen, Amnesty International supporters write letters to authorities on behalf of those who have been unjustly imprisoned for exercising the rights guaranteed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, established in 1948.  For past year’s successes see: http://www.amnestyusa.org/writeathon/successes.php

The event will be held in the McLaughlin College Center lobby from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Paper will be provided and the letters to be copied will be short and to the point, allowing participants to make a difference in less than 10 minutes. Refreshments, bumper stickers, pins, pocket sized universal declarations of human rights and good luck on finals will be available free of charge for all participants.
