March 22, 2010

Herkimer County Community College’s Diversity Committee announces a presentation, “Hatred and Violence Perpetuated Against Women in the Name of Tradition” by Lisa Elwood-Farber, Assistant Professor of English at HCCC. It will be held on Tuesday, March 30 at 10 a.m. in room 288 in the Robert McLaughlin College Center.

The presentation will discuss cultural traditions, the language we use and the political agendas that mask hatred against women and children which perpetuate violence against them, worldwide. Elwood-Farber stresses that women’s rights need to be universally accepted as human rights, but that making that happen in a world that continues to view women as inferior seems a daunting task.

This presentation is one in a series of presentations sponsored by the College’s Diversity Committee. It is free and open to the public.
