HCCC and Genesis Group Seeking Businesses to Participate in College Welcome Initiative

Herkimer County Community College is participating in the third annual College Welcome Initiative, sponsored by the Genesis Group of the Mohawk Valley Region.
Eleven colleges throughout Central New York (totaling over 25,000 students), are participating in this initiative designed to help college students feel welcome throughout the Mohawk Valley when they arrive to campus within the next couple of weeks. The program includes promoting a ‘welcome message, providing a calendar of campus events open to students at any of the participating colleges, and providing discounts and/or incentives at many local businesses. Ray Durso, Executive Director of the Genesis Group said “As a result of participating in this program last year, many businesses reported having many new student customers.”
HCCC is working collaboratively with the Genesis Group to increase participation of businesses in the Herkimer County area. By choosing to participate, and by offering a special discount or incentive to local College students, businesses will be included on the Genesis website, as well as promoted on the HCCC campus. Businesses will also receive a window decal with the recognized logo to display as a way to identify the business as a participant.
