HCCC Softball Ranked #1
January 28, 2013
Herkimer County Community College’s women’s softball team has been ranked the #1 team by the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III pre-season poll, released this week by the organization. Herkimer Coach PJ Anadio has only two returning players, Stephanie Siriano, a Vernon-Verona-Sherrill graduate and Jessica Patterelli, Canastota, both All-Americans. The team includes 18 freshmen.
Coach Anadio said “we are coming off our first World Series appearance in over a decade after winning the Region III Championship and finishing 38-6. We had 18 players above a 3.0 GPA last semester.
“We’re very excited to be selected by the NJCAA’s voting committee as the preseason #1 team in the nation. Just to be included in the poll with some of the top programs and coaches in the game is very humbling,” he added. Anadio said the team will continue to work extremely hard to prove the team is worthy of this accolade.
“A lot of hard work has been poured into the program in the past few years by a lot of people, especially our former players, and I couldn’t be happier for them,” Anadio said. “Without the support from the entire HCCC campus community, we wouldn’t be in the position we are today,” he concluded. HCCC opens its season on March 12 at Orange County Community College.
