Several Herkimer County Community College students recently accompanied President Ann Marie Murray and Dean of Students Matthew Hawes to visit elected officials locally in their offices. Students had the opportunity to discuss what the College means to them, how they appreciate the support of the officials and to share their career plans.

Meeting with Assemblyman Marc Butler and Congressman Richard Hanna were freshmen Adam Lisser, Rome, a Criminal Justice: Cybersecurity major; and Kevin Montano, Sauquoit, Communication Arts: New Media. Montano said, ““I really enjoyed meeting with Assemblyman Butler and Congressman Hanna. Seeing our government in action and getting to talk about the great things happening at Herkimer was a wonderful experience and a treat.”

David Stanley, Bronx, a freshman Criminal Justice major, accompanied Dr. Murray and Dr. Hawes on visits with Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi. Dr. Murray said, “This semester, we have been lobbying for restoration of state aid for community colleges. Visiting elected officials, our students have done an outstanding job representing themselves and our College. The officials have enjoyed hearing their stories and learning of their career dreams. The students were able to thank the officials for their advocacy and experience first-hand what our representatives do for our College. It was a wonderful opportunity for all involved.”
