Syla Named National Soccer Player of the Year

Herkimer County Community College men’s soccer midfielder Korab Syla has been named the 2012 NSCAA Junior College National Player of the Year. Syla, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies senior from Yonkers, NY, helped lead the Generals to a 20-2-0 record and back-to-back national championships.
He netted six goals and had 21 assists including recording six assists on 10 of the goals in post-season play. Syla was also named first team All-Mountain Valley Conference, All-Region III, NSCAA All-East and NSCAA All-American. Syla was named to both the Region III and National Final Eight all-tournament team.
“Korab is one of the most explosive and skillful outside midfielders I have ever coached,” Coach Pepe Aragon said. “A huge part of our offense the entire season, Syla has several Division I and II schools recruiting him,” Aragon added. Syla is Coach Aragon’s sixth national player of the year. He will receive his award in Indianapolis, Indiana January 19, 2013 at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American Luncheon.
