How to Get the Most out of a Tutoring Session
Responsibility = Goal Achievement
ATTEND CLASS - tutoring time is not a replacement for class or seeing your instructor during office hours.
1. If you miss class, get the notes from a fellow student, and talk to the instructor.
2. See your instructor for missed assignments and/ or clarification of concepts before meeting with the College Academic Support Center (CLC) tutors.
KNOW THE ASSIGNMENT.
1. Try the assignment on your own before seeing a CLC tutor.
2. See your instructor if you don't understand the assignment. Remember- the tutor cannot and will not make a guess about the nature of an assignment.
3. Don't expect the tutor to complete take-home tests or projects for you.
BE PREPARED FOR THE TUTORING SESSION.
1. Read chapters, articles, or other information important to the assignment before your tutorial.
2. Review your class notes and think of examples given in class. Develop other examples that can be discussed during the tutoring session.
3. Write down questions about ideas / concepts / material you don't understand.
4. Give some thought to your academic strengths and weaknesses; if you know yourself, it will help us to help you!
THINK AHEAD - don't wait too long to seek help. Panic is not productive.
ONCE YOU HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT, BE ON TIME. Tutors reserve the right to "bump" you in favor of another student if you are more than 10 minutes late. If you are going to be late for an appointment, let us know - call 866-0300 Ext. 8288.
EXPECT TO PARTICIPATE FULLY IN EACH SESSION; the tutor cannot and will not do your thinking for you.
BE COURTEOUS - tutors are required to help you only during set CLC hours. All other assistance is voluntary and left to the discretion of the tutor.
REMEMBER - the ultimate responsibility rests with you, not the tutor.
