Counseling Center Recognized By The Genesis Group as an Outstanding Program

Counseling Center at Celebration of Education Nov 2021

Congratulations to the staff of the Counseling Center on being recognized as an Outstanding Program by The Genesis Group at their Celebration of Education held November 18, 2021 at Harts Hill Inn, Whitesboro. The following introduction was presented at the event:

"Herkimer College's Counseling Center, under the direction of Director Wendy Marchese, already had a strong reputation on campus as a place where students could seek mental health services, in a comfortable, unbiased and confidential environment. The nominator wrote, "They are among the most caring, patient and resourceful individuals on campus." When the department had to pivot in spring of 2020, they quickly rose to the occasion and transitioned in creative ways to maintain their known level of services for students in a virtual environment through tele-counseling. The Counseling Center offers students a wide range of programming and training, beyond the traditional counseling services. From prevention programming around topics of suicide, domestic violence, and substance abuse, several events are coordinated by the office annually to bring awareness to both the college campus but also the greater Herkimer community. Staff members Amy Fahey and Madeline Synder both have brought additional programs to Herkimer College to help students who are in recovery and to prevent underage drinking and drug abuse. A new Collegiate Recovery Room is provided on campus for students to have a comfortable place for support meetings, recovery coaching, wellness programming, and visits with Renegade, Herkimer’s beloved golden retriever therapy dog."

Congratulations!
