Face Coverings Update

In light of the recent spread of the COVID Delta variant and in accordance with updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and discussions with SUNY administration and the Herkimer County Department of Health, Herkimer College will require all employees, students, and visitors – regardless of their vaccination status – to wear face coverings, effective Monday, August 9, 2021.

Face coverings: Face coverings will be required in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and all other common spaces. Face coverings are not required while eating in on-campus dining areas, within personal offices, or in non-public-facing personal workstations.

Work station plexiglass barriers: All work station plexiglass barriers should remain in place or be reinstalled (if previously removed).

Outdoor settings: Unvaccinated individuals will be required to wear face coverings in all outdoor settings. Vaccinated individuals will not be required to wear face coverings outdoors, except at outdoor events and where large groups of people gather, such as at on-campus athletic events.

Vaccination: As we safely resume in-person classes and operations for the fall semester, Herkimer College strongly urges all students and employees to get vaccinated. Upon FDA full approval, vaccination will be required for all students participating in on-campus classes and activities or visiting campus for any reason. Herkimer College will continue to require regular testing of non-vaccinated students and employees. As a reminder to students, you must upload your proof of vaccination or HERKSafe pledge (if unvaccinated) here: www.herkimer.edu/herksafe.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, and as recommendations from federal, state, and local entities potentially change, we will adjust our health and safety protocols accordingly.

We are committed to providing a safe campus environment for all students, employees, and visitors. For all updates, please refer to Herkimer College’s COVID-19 Planning and Response website.

Sincerely,
President Cathleen C. McColgin, Ph.D.
