Message from the President
The health and safety of our students and staff have always been a top priority for Herkimer County Community College, and remains so as as we respond to the coronavirus outbreak. My leadership team and I will continue to review developments and work closely with SUNY leadership and local, state, federal, and public health officials. The College will provide updates often and stay in touch with the campus community throughout the semester.
During this unsettling time, Herkimer College remains committed to our mission of providing high-quality educational opportunities for students to achieve their academic goals. Faculty have been working to transition their courses to alternative formats, such as online learning, independent study, experiential learning, and distance learning (phone/conferencing systems). Some classes may still meet in person, in small groups, to ensure academic continuity; these classes will be closely monitored to ensure health and safety. Faculty members are communicating with students regarding specific plans for their respective courses.
We recognize that alternative formats will be a new experience for some students, but faculty and staff will be available to assist with the transition. The College will continue to provide essential support services and resources. This includes computer labs, academic support, advisement, library, financial aid, counseling, career and transfer services, as well as the dining center and the General’s Cupboard.
On-campus housing remains open throughout the remainder of the spring semester. Students may remain on campus during spring break or return when classes start on March 23.
On-campus activities and events will continue to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis with the health and safety of our students and staff the primary factor in making decisions. As recommended by public health officials, the use of social distancing and limiting the number of individuals at group gatherings will be observed. Enhanced cleaning measures to prevent the spread of virus continue throughout the campus.
As new information becomes available, updates to the campus community will be provided via the College’s website and emails. It is important that students check their Herkimer College email often and visit www.herkimer.edu/coronavirus for messages.
