The Travel and Events Management A.A.S. program prepares you for a wide variety of employment opportunities in the travel, hospitality, and events planning fields. You’ll learn hospitality business operations in fundamental areas, such as meetings and conventions, hotel sales, and operations management.
You’ll also gain onsite experiential learning in the tourism industry at sites such as hotels, resorts, convention centers, event management companies, airlines, convention and visitor's bureaus, Walt Disney World, and the American Hospitality Academy.
While Herkimer’s Travel and Tourism program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions, many students go on to a four-year college. Transfer articulation agreements have been established with Niagara University, SUNY Delhi, and Rochester Institute of Technology.
A hands-on internship experience is built into the program. Internships range from 60 to 120 hours and 3 to 6 credits.
Prior to teaching at Herkimer, I worked in many areas of the hospitality industry. As a seasoned professional and one deeply interested in teaching and training, I wanted to transfer these skills into the classroom. My passion for the industry and strong desire to educate and train future industry leaders led me to Herkimer. Furthermore, I wanted to become a part of one of the highest quality programs and curricula and to continually enhance the college’s leadership position and strong reputation in Travel and Event Management education.
