Dr. Ronald J. Miers, a longtime St. Johnsville resident, was a graduate of Ilion High School and Herkimer College. He went on to earn a B.S. degree in Construction Management from Utica College of Syracuse University, and later in life received a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Construction Management from SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry, Syracuse, NY. Distinguishing himself as an academic, Dr. Miers was an associate professor at Central Connecticut State University. His numerous professional memberships included the American Society for Engineering Educators and the Associated Schools of Construction. He never forgot his Herkimer roots, and gave back to the College by serving on the Herkimer College Advisory Committee for construction management. He also wrote the construction curriculum at Utica College, authored numerous scholarly articles and was invited to present at the ICERI conference in Madrid, Spain in 2009. Dr. Miers served on nationally and internally respected civil engineering and materials academic advisory boards. His university service, scholarship activities, departmental service and teaching experience earned him a nomination for the Board of Governors Award in 2007. His community service included the Peggy Crosby Community Service Center renovation in Highlands, NC, volunteering his consulting and expertise on the rehabilitation of the existing structure interiors and mechanical systems. Dr. Miers died unexpectedly in January 2012 in Berlin, CT. Although Dr. Miers had many professional accomplishments, his greatest passion and strongest loyalties belonged with his family.
