As a personal stylist and shopper at Rue Gilt Groupe and Chico’s, Daisha Bates ’17, loves fostering relationships with her clients and creating a personalized shopping experience for each of them.

Bates credits her time at Herkimer College for her knowledge of and passion for the fashion industry. 

“My time at Herkimer College inspired me to really pursue my dreams in the fashion industry and to go after what I really wanted. Amy Roepnack, my fashion professor during my time at Herkimer, was such an amazing, inspiring, creative industry professional that taught me so much, and was so knowledgeable about the industry,” Bates said.

Meet Alesha Bowman, the new assistant professor of of Fashion Buying & Merchandising.

Bowman previously owned and operated unLESHed+, a secondhand clothing store for plus-size women in Kansas City, Missouri. She opened the business in 2017, overseeing all aspects of running a small fashion business — customer service, store layout/merchandising, marketing & promotions, buying, etc. — until she closed the business in August of 2022. Leveraging her passion for social media and editorial fashion styling, Alesha gained the attention of producers at The Ellen DeGeneres Show and appeared on an October 2020 episode about small business owners.
