Herkimer College to Host International Peace Day Event

Herkimer College will host an International Peace Day event on September 20 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Robert McLaughlin College Center.

Peace Day is a globally shared day where all humanity commits to peace above all differences and people are encouraged to come together and build a culture of peace. This year’s theme for 2017 Peace Day is Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.

Herkimer College clubs such as Amnesty International, Women’s Club and Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) will bring the campus community together for this important day of recognition.

A variety of events will take place. Peace themed music will be played, and students will sing songs of peace. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights will be hosted. All students will have the chance to write quotes about their own thoughts on peace and respect for diversity to create a banner and peace bracelets will be made to share. Letters and petitions will be provided by Amnesty International for students to write and sign for those imprisoned for fighting for peace.
