The Herkimer County Community College Athletic Department is the recipient of the 2017 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III Sportsmanship Award.

The award recognizes member institutions that exhibit dedication to the honor and integrity of intercollegiate athletics and whose student-athletes and staff display outstanding sportsmanship during competition throughout the year. This award was created by athletic directors of the 22 colleges in Region III to recognize their peers who strive for excellence in all areas of athletics.

The Herkimer Generals athletic program also won the 2016-17 National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup, ranking Herkimer first in the nation among two-year college non-scholarship athletic programs, based on points earned in post-season play. This is the third NATYCAA Cup win for Herkimer in the past four years.

“While Herkimer athletics is a national powerhouse, we also place great emphasis on academics, sportsmanship and community service. I am very proud of our student-athletes and coaches and how they consistently conduct themselves in a positive and professional way,” said Donald Dutcher, Director of Athletics.

Herkimer County Community College’s national championship athletic program is a Division III member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and has amassed 57 national, 115 regional and 158 conference championships.
