Herkimer College’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Achieves Top Honor and Names Two Students to PTK All-State Academic Teams

Herkimer College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Upsilon Epsilon, has received a five-star designation for the second consecutive year. Five stars is the highest level of chapter recognition by Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges.

“Our students have achieved a high level of achievement in scholarly excellence and community involvement,” said chapter co-advisor, Blake Pitcher. “We’re extremely proud of them.”
Phi Theta Kappa chapters have five levels of engagement that progress from local, campus involvement to regional involvement and international involvement. The New York region has 59 participating chapters.

It’s been a notable year for Herkimer College’s chapter. Caleb Sanfino (Herkimer, NY) and Shaun McGraw (Dolgeville, NY), were named to the Phi Theta Kappa All New York Academic first and third team, respectively. Students from the 38 participating states nominated to the All-USA Academic Team are named to the All-State Academic Teams. Ranking on the All-State Academic Teams is generally determined by the student's score in the national competition. All-State Academic Team members receive special recognition including medallions and certificates and may include scholarships.

The Herkimer College chapter is co-advised by Vicki Brown, Stephanie Conley, Blake Pitcher and Joshua Belisle. PTK is an international honor society and the purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two year students. Membership is extended to those who have achieved a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA and have accumulated at least 12 credit hours.
