Mary Ann Carroll Emeritus

The Herkimer County Community College Board of Trustees has granted emeritus status to Mary Ann Carroll, effective September 1, 2019. Carroll is retiring in August as the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs for Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness after 32 years of service.

Carroll joined the faculty in 1986 as a junior instructor in the Applied Science and Technology division, was granted tenure in 1991, and promoted to assistant professor in 2003.

Carroll joined the administration in 2004 as an associate dean in the Humanities division, and in 2006, she was appointed associate professor in the Radio-TV Broadcasting department. After serving as assessment coordinator from 2012 to 2014, she was appointed to her current position.

Carroll has served in lead roles on several college committees, including the Assessment Committee and Institutional Effectiveness Steering Committee. She assisted in the completion of the Middle States 2009 Institutional Self-Study and 2010 Monitoring Report. In her role as Assistant Dean, Carroll completed the 2015 Periodic Review report, and is currently co-chairing the Middle States Self Study Steering Committee.

For many years, Carroll planned and executed the College’s Commencement telecast on HCTV. She was also involved in many innovative student broadcasts over the years. She advises the General’s Theater Club, a student performance group.

Carroll was awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service in 2014.

Emeritus status is an honor granted by the Board of Trustees to retired professional, academic and administrative staff members who have demonstrated excellence and commitment to making Herkimer College the exceptional institution it is today.
