Women's Soccer sweeps weekend games vs Jamestown and Clinton to move to 7-0 on season

Herkimer, NY and Plattsburgh, NY - The Herkimer Women's Soccer team took 2 games this past weekend over Jamestown CC on Saturday and Clinton CC on Sunday.

On Saturday the Herkimer Women’s Team hosted Jamestown in a Region 3 crossover game. The Generals wasted no time getting a lead as 2 minutes into the game Courtney Madia (Frankfort, NY) would finish off a shot which hit the post from Keara Blumenstock (Poland, NY). Just over a minute later Madia struck again this time Tayler Clark (Poland, NY) sprung her with a great through ball. The Generals possessed the ball for almost the entire first half as they would add to their total for a 5-0 halftime lead. Kristen Purcell (Sauquoit, NY) found Becky Judd (Herkimer, NY) in the 22nd minute. Purcell then tacked on a couple of her own in an 8 minute span before the half with Madia and Raquel Burton (Sauquoit, NY) getting the assists. After the half Ericka Arancio (Clinton, NY) would strike 5 minutes in with Madia tallying another assist. Raquel Burton would round out the scoring in the 64th minute when Patricia Fernandez (Madrid, Spain) laid it off to her. Kayla Alsheimer (Deerfield, NY), Arancio, Judd, Madison Hampston (Poland, NY), & Kara Steacy (Cincinnatus) stifled Jamestown all day to not allow any scoring chances. Steacy played the full 90 in goal for the shutout win.

On Sunday the Generals traveled to Plattsburgh to take on Clinton CCC in a conference game. The Generals as they did Saturday wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Tayler Clark (Poland, NY) found Kristen Purcell (Sauquoit, NY) for the first score 2 minutes into the game. The Generals dominated play but the Clinton keeper, Paige Chilton, would keep them at bay until the second half for a 1-0 halftime lead.  She made 22 saves in the first half. The persistent Generals attack broke through and in a fury as within a 20 minute span the Generals busted the game wide open with 8 goals. 2 minutes into the 2nd half Purcell found a streaking Becky Judd (Herkimer, NY) who finished it nicely inside the far post. Purcell tallied her second goal 5 minutes later when Keara Blumenstock (Poland, NY) & Tayler Clark (Poland, NY) played some nice combinations to free her up. 2 minutes later Courtney Madia (Frankfort, NY) found Emily LeBlanc (Morrisville, NY) to make it 4-0. 3 minutes after Kayla Alsheimer would find Raquel Burton who played it to Blumenstock for the finish. 20 seconds later Purcell found Madia for a very quick finish. Naudia Lockett (Schenectady, NY) would find Purcell 3 minutes after to complete the hat trick. Within the next 4 minutes Clark and Madia tacked on two more off of assists from Blumenstock & Madison Hampston (Poland, NY). Clinton would grab a goal back late but it was too little too late as Herkimer improved to 7-0 on the season. The Generals are back in action this Wednesday against North Country home at 4:30.
